This year’s Hollywood Gives Back® project selected the following causes:
Artists for Human Rights: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 10, 1948. Anne Archer founded Artists for Human Rights to raise awareness throughout the world “by knowing them, demanding them, and defending them.”
Artists for Peace and Justice: Provides assistance to poor children in Haiti. Childen grow up and can live their entire lives having never seen a flower. Clean water, sanitation, electricity, education and medical care are practically non-existent. One child out of three dies before the age of 5.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles: The mandate is to make a world of difference in the lives of children, adolescents and their families by integrating medical care, education and research to provide the highest quality care and service to the diverse community. While most of the children admitted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles come from Los Angeles County, others come from the seven-county area near Los Angeles and around the world.
East Timor Zones of Peace: When a conflict is raging, the world is horrified by the images and stories in the news. When the conflict stops, and the stories stop, the region falls out of the world’s view. The East Timor Zones of Peace program plants the seeds of peace in a small post-conflict region where resources can be focused.
The Wonder of Reading: A nonprofit organization whose purpose is to inspire in children the love of reading. The mission is to have a significant impact on reading in Southern California elementary schools. The Wonder of Reading furthers its purpose through the 3R Program—Renovate, Restock, and Read.
Variety Socal:Variety, The Children’s Charity has been providing assistance to abused, addicted, physically-challenged, neglected, and underprivileged children across the globe for over 80 years. Variety takes time and care in evaluating each child to give individualized assistance that saves and enhances his or her life.
